Introduction
Resulting from JLC’s entrance into the dive watch race that came around in the 1950s with the first underwater alarm watch, the JLC Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea is a clever timepiece that blends vintage aesthetic with modern yet heritage-inspired mechanics. While designed with a simple and easily understood layout and case, the Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea ref. 202.84.70 actually features a complex movement, the automatic cal. 956 with over 265 parts and an alarm function that is loud enough to be heard underwater. Limited to just 959 pieces, the ref. 202.84.70 is offered as the European Edition of the Memovax Tribute to Deep Sea, with its identifiable full ‘Jaeger LeCoultre’ logo in lieu of the US market’s lone ‘LeCoultre’ and the lack of inscription at 6 o’clock, as compared to the US’s edition featuring the inscription “Deep Sea Alarm Automatic.” Measuring in at 40.5mm in diameter, the ref. 202.84.70’s stainless steel case wears elegantly on the wrist and embodies the classy aesthetic of which JLC has championed over the last several decades.

THE DIAL
Easily the most understated variant of the Tribute to Deep Sea, the European edition's black dial lacks any superfluous branding or inscriptions that the US' market's variant does feature.
THE CONSTRUCTION
Offered in a 40.5mm stainless steel case, the Memovox wears the same presence on the wrist as a modern collector would want but with the aesthetic of an older watch, thanks to its faux patina and aluminum bezel insert.

Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Case has minor signs of wear, with some superficial scratches visible, primarily on the lugs. The bezel near-mint without any significant marks or damage. The crystal has some scratches on the surface, with the largest area around the 3 o'clock edge. Watch comes on a worn woven strap with its original buckle.
