Introduction
Initially presented in 1999, 9 years after A. Lange & Söhne was re-launched in 1990, the Lange & Söhne 1815 is the physical embodiment of the elegant dress watch aesthetic on which the Bavarian watchmaker has established their modern identity. With its clean utilitarian design and no-frills execution, the 1815 collection lends from the design choices afforded to pocket watches during the time of Lange & Söhne’s founder, Ferdinand Adolph Lange, who was born in the collections eponymous year of 1815. Offered as a collection featuring a variety of complications, the variant we have here is a time-only ref. 233.025 that was produced as a limited edition variant of 500 pieces in 2009. Offered with a silver dial boasting gorgeous black painted Breguet numerals and Lange’s traditional Alpha-shaped hands in 18kt white gold, this 1815 is exceptionally understated and refined. Featuring an platinum case that is sized like a modern dress watch at 40mm in diameter and just 7.5mm tall, this 1815 speaks to the classical aesthetic that it is inspired by. Filled with careful considerations that Lange would have made when designing this beautiful watch, the entire 1815 collection serves to display Lange’s ability to create effortlessly luxurious watches, which this ref. 233.025 definitely is.

Our Perspective
An important collection for Lange, the 1815 has become one of their most iconic offerings, and even its time-only variant contributes to the collection's important position within Lange's line-up as it provides the German watchmaker with a foundation upon which to build their more complicated offerings.
