Introduction
Among the more unusual and desirable accessories produced for A. Lange & Söhne watches are the precious-metal bracelets manufactured by fellow German luxury house Wellendorff. Renowned for its exceptional jewellery and highly intricate metalwork, Wellendorff brought the same level of craftsmanship to its bracelets for Lange, which were offered with some of the manufacture's most important watches.
This example is crafted in platinum and features an intricate multi-row construction combining polished rounded links with contrasting rectangular elements. Despite the substantial nature of platinum, the numerous individually articulated links give the bracelet remarkable flexibility, allowing it to conform closely and comfortably around the wrist. At its centre is a substantial rectangular clasp prominently signed LANGE.
Far more than simply an alternative to a leather strap, Wellendorff's bracelets became an important part of the aesthetic of certain early A. Lange & Söhne watches. Today, they are particularly prized by collectors and are rarely encountered separately from the watches with which they were originally supplied.

Condition
The platinum bracelet is in overall excellent condition. It shows light surface scratches and signs of wear, with negligible play between the links. The bracelet is fitted with 20 links, 5 of which are removable, and measures approximately 165mm or 6½” in length. Hallmarks along the WG butterfly clasp are crisp and fully visible.
Our Perspective
The bracelets produced by Wellendorff for A. Lange & Söhne occupy a fascinating niche within modern Lange collecting. Combining the watchmaker's restrained Saxon aesthetic with the exceptional jewellery-making expertise of one of Germany's great goldsmithing houses, they were sufficiently elaborate to become focal points in their own right. Offered here independently of a watch, this platinum example is an unusual opportunity to acquire one of the most distinctive accessories associated with the early modern era of A. Lange & Söhne.
