Introduction

When A. Lange & Söhne returned to watchmaking in 1994, the Saxonia was among the four collections that announced the revival of the historic Glashütte manufacture. Named in honour of Saxony, the German state where Ferdinand Adolph Lange established his workshop in 1845, the collection embodied a distinctly German interpretation of classical watchmaking. Its understated design, elegant proportions and meticulous mechanical finishing established an aesthetic that would become central to the modern Lange identity. The Saxonia Thin, introduced in 2011, took this philosophy a step further, removing the subsidiary seconds display and reducing the watch to its most essential elements. The result was a two-hand dress watch that demonstrated how simplicity of design could coexist with extraordinary mechanical sophistication.

Dating to 2016, this Saxonia Thin ref. 201.027 represents one of the purest expressions of A. Lange & Söhne's contemporary watchmaking. Its 18K white gold case measures 37mm in diameter and just 5.9mm thick, with elegantly shaped lugs that extend its overall length to approximately 43mm. The silver dial is deliberately restrained, featuring slender applied hour markers, polished hands and the manufacture's signature beneath 12 o'clock. There is no seconds hand, date aperture or unnecessary decoration to interrupt the composition. Beneath the sapphire exhibition case back sits the manually wound calibre L093.1, an exceptionally slim movement whose traditional Glashütte finishing provides a fascinating contrast to the minimalism of the dial.

THE DIAL

THE DIAL

The silver dial exemplifies the Saxonia Thin's minimalist design philosophy, with slender applied hour markers and polished hour and minute hands arranged around the discreet A. Lange & Söhne signature. By eliminating the subsidiary seconds display found on other Saxonia references, the watch achieves an exceptionally clean and balanced composition.

THE CONSTRUCTION

THE CONSTRUCTION

The 37mm case is crafted from 18K white gold and measures just 5.9mm thick, giving the Saxonia Thin its exceptionally elegant profile. Its polished surfaces, slender bezel and carefully proportioned lugs create a restrained silhouette, while the sapphire exhibition case back reveals the beautifully finished movement within.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

Watch is in overall excellent condition. The 18K white gold case shows light surface scratches and marks, particularly to the polished bezel. There is a deeper scratch on the bezel near the 15-minute position. The display case back shows light signs of wear, while the engravings and hallmarks remain crisp and well defined. The dial and hands are like new. It is fitted with a black leather strap and 18K white gold A. Lange & Söhne pin buckle showing surface scratches. Comes with inner and outer boxes, guarantee, booklet, card holder, and cloth.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

The Saxonia Thin demonstrates A. Lange & Söhne's ability to combine exceptional movement finishing with remarkably restrained design. Its slender white gold case, beautifully proportioned dial and manually wound calibre L093.1 make it a compelling choice for collectors who appreciate traditional German watchmaking.
