Introduction
Released in 1994 as one of A. Lange & Söhne’s original watches after their relaunch, the Lange 1 is widely considered one of the most recognizable watches Lange has ever created. With its off-center outsize date indication - inspired by the Five-Minute Clock in the Semper Opera House, asymmetrically positioned hour and minute sub-dial, seconds sub-dial at 5 o’clock, and a power-reserve indicator at 3 o’clock, the Lange 1 has become a staple within the brand’s portfolio of iconic timepieces. Featuring its heritage-inspired design, the Lange 1 ref. 101.021 portrays the Lange 1’s classic aesthetic through the use of a traditional color scheme that is achieved by its use of a stunning silver dial and 18kt yellow gold construction. Presented in a perfectly wearable 38.5mm rose gold case, the ref. 101.021 remains refined and balanced nicely on the wrist – a nice change of pace from its larger sibling variants, and the generally larger watches that have flooded the market in recent years. Combining this wearability with its understated design, the ref. 101.021 is unreservedly ‘Lange’ in its execution. With its immaculately finished manual-wind cal. L901 on display behind its exhibition caseback, it carries its impeccable craftsmanship through its entire construction right through to its movement, a testament to Lange’s unwavering dedication to their timepieces and their commitment to impeccable craftsmanship.

THE MOVEMENT

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case shows light signs of wear, including a few fine scratches on the polished bezel, and has developed a pleasing patina. The display case back features crisp engravings and well-defined hallmarks. The dial is generally excellent, with some minor marks around the outer edge between 8 and 12. It is fitted with a black alligator strap and yellow gold LANGE-signed buckle, both in excellent condition.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
A wonderfully wearable version of the Lange 1, the ref. 101.021 merges the Lange 1's traditional design and iconic layout with a comfortable 38.5mm case to ensure it will easily wrap around the wrist of the majority of collectors.
