Alain Silberstein Krono PVD

Introduction

Famed for the signature design that almost all of his watches share, French architect and designer turned watchmaker Alain Silberstein’s timepieces have become increasingly sought-after thanks to their whimsical handsets, colorful designs, and the plethora of complications they often-times feature. By utilizing shapes and colors never seen before in watchmaking, Alain’s design philosophy quickly caught on as collectors saw the value in a unique design language removed from the traditionally conservative styling used by the vast majority of watchmakers. As a result, the first series Krono that we have here is a joyful piece of watchmaking exuberance. Launched in 1995 as a limited edition timepiece with just 999 pieces made, the Krono’s mechanical complexity works wonderfully to accentuate the variety of colors and shapes shown across its handset that pop against its sleek black dial. Powered by the Valjoux cal. 7751, based on the legendary cal. 7750, the Krono is an annual calendar chronograph with a moon phase and day/night indicators. With Alain’s signature tall round case with eccentric pushers and a dial-matching black PVD-coating, the Krono’s entire design is cohesive and complete, just like Alain’s timepieces often feel as the legendary designer-turned-watchmaker exhibits total unwavering control over his creative process.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

In well retained original condition. The dial is in attractive condition with some very minor oxidation and the lumes have aged consistently together. The case is in very good condition with crisp lines and proportions, with only light surface wear that is consistent with the age of the watch.

Our Perspective

With its sleek all-black aesthetic providing the perfect backdrop for its uniquely-shaped and colorful hands, the first series Krono was a bit more understated than Alain's other timepieces, but it still manages to capture the imagination in ways that other brands have never yet managed to emulate.
