Introduction
Considered to be the godfather of modern independent watchmaking, Svend Andersen burst onto the scene of watchmaking at Montres et Bijoux at the age of just 27 after making a watch inside of a bottle. Known as the watchmaker of the impossible from that point on, Svend Andersen was destined for greatness within the world of horology, and he has successfully enacted upon that mission, with his watches considered some of the best made in the industry. A testament to the talents of his brand, which he started in 1979, 10 years after he made the bottle watch, Svend Andersen debuted the World Time 500th Anniversary Christopher Columbus in 1992, to celebrate, as its name states, the 500th anniversary of Christoper Columbus’ arrival onto the shores of the United States of America. Boasting a 35mm 18kt yellow gold case and powered by the automatic Audemars Piguet cal. 951 movement, this world time watch is fitted with a stunning dial with a silver chapter ring and blue depiction of the Atlantic ocean between the United States and Europe, with Columbus’ route highlighted as a subtle nod to the journey that transformed the world as we know it.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case is well defined, with some light surface scratches and marks. The hallmarks on the case side are crisp, and the case back engraving remains very well defined. This watch is a very early example and unlike later ones which are numbered on the caseback, this does not have a number and the engravings are slightly different. The dial is near mint, with the exception of a small mark at 15:30 on the inner 24-hour ring. The watch is fitted with a navy Andersen Genève alligator strap and yellow gold A-signed buckle, both in excellent condition.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Tying horology's most relevant travelling complication with one of the world's most pivotal trans-Atlantic journeys, the World Time we have here is an interesting celebration of history and watchmaking.
