Introduction
The world of independent watchmaking can be a rather trend-driven industry where watchmakers will take the flavor of the month and design whatever watch they can to fit within the prevailing trend. However, not all watchmakers follow those trends, and some set them, much like the watchmaker we have here, Anoma, founded by Matteo Violet-Vianello. Debuting in 2024, Anoma helped set the trend for asymmetric uniquely-shaped watches with the A1, their very first watch. Boasting a triangular case with rounded edges and a rotated dial slightly askew dial all inspired by a 1950s free form table by Charlotte Perriand, the A1 was an immediate hit thanks to its relative affordability, aesthetic novelty, stylish design, and impressive build quality. 39mm tall and 39mm wide, but wearing like a 37mm diameter watch due to its shape and lack of lugs, the A1’s 9.45mm thick case is a pleasure on the wrist. Offered here we have the A1 Copper, which features a copper-colored dial with a rather hypnotic design made up of the same triangular shape as the case surrounding it. Offset and hand-polished, this copper dial is a stunning embellishment for a unique case that has helped popularize asymmetrical aesthetics in the last year or so.

THE DIAL
Offset to the case to provide a contrast between the thickness of its bezel at different points, the A1 Optical's copper dial is a beautifully achieved example of how just a small detail can have a large impact on the final aesthetic of a watch. With 50 triangles that are then offset to the dial itself, the A1 Optical's overarching aesthetic is full of motion and movement.
THE CONSTRUCTION
While its asymmetrical triangle-shaped case design is 39mm x 39mm, the A1 Optical wears like a 37mm watch due to its lack of lugs and rounded edges giving it a softer profile.
