Made sparingly across the 1980s and 1990s, the watch that we have here is a wonderfully elusive and rather unique Audemars Piguet, designed to look like a ribbon wrapping around a leather strap. Made of 18kt yellow gold and diamond-set by Audemars Piguet, the resulting quartz watch speaks to the watchmaker’s avant-garde design language with its asymmetrical shape and off-the-wall source of inspiration. A sculptural rarity that is more jewellery than watch, this is an unmistakable timepiece that showcases just how different Audemars Piguet’s watches can be when they express themselves.

THE DIAL
Featuring a bright silver dial without any embellishments beyond its grained texture, AP branding, and indices at the quarter hours, this display is designed not to detract from its surrounding construction.
THE CONSTRUCTION
Featuring a twisted asymmetrical design that looks like a ribbon wrapping around a strap, this example's diamond-set 18kt yellow gold case is wonderfully unorthodox and immediately unique.
THE STRAP
Locked to the watch thanks to a pin that protrudes from its caseback, this timepiece encourages strap-swapping, as this example's litany of additional straps suggests.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The gold case shows light surface scratches and marks, while the case sides retain very well-defined engravings. All diamonds and settings remain excellent. The case back retains excellent engravings and hallmarks. The dial shows a mark at the edge near eight o’clock along with a couple of other small surface marks, while the hands remain very clean. It is fitted with a black crocodile strap designed specifically for this model and a yellow gold Audemars Piguet pin buckle. Additionally, the watch is accompanied by a further nine straps in a range of exotic skins and colours.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
A watch like no other, this Asymmetric Ribbon watch combines AP's wacky design language with their famously impressive talents in creating sculptural watches that also act as jewellery.
