How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Famed for their aggressively avant-garde take on design and aesthetics, Audemars Piguet has long been known to blend aspects of their history with their own take on horology. As a result, timepieces that feature both - period-defining designs and aspects of AP’s historical DNA can be produced, just like this Cobra that was launched in the 1970s. Featuring a tonneau-shaped 18kt white gold case with an intricately woven 18kt white gold bracelet that flows into the bezel that encircles its blue diamond-set dial and white gold hands, this ‘Cobra’ ref. 5403BC blends AP’s love of opulence with their desire to create truly unique designs. Boasting a thin automatic movement, this timepiece ensures that AP’s clientele could enjoy AP’s high level of horology design, all the while enjoying a watch that is compact on the wrist and wears like an elegant dress watch just with a beautifully intricate and opulent sense of design through its immaculately woven bracelet, made by Gilbert Goschen (GRG, Geneva), equally unique case made by C. R. Spillman and plethora of diamonds across its sunburst blue dial.

Condition

The watch is in overall excellent condition. The white gold case and bracelet are integrated and remain in excellent condition, with light scratches and marks as expected of a watch of this vintage. The dodecagonal case back is in excellent condition, with its circular brushed finish still evident and well-defined engravings and hallmarks. The blue diamond-set dial is excellent, and the white gold hands are very clean. The bracelet is sized to fit a 6 3/4" wrist, and shows minimal play or stretch.

Our Perspective

A visually intriguing timepiece, the Cobra is a watch that speaks to AP's rich history in creating avant-garde designs that broke convention and challenged aesthetic norms.
