Introduction
Famed for their aggressively avant-garde take on design and aesthetics, Audemars Piguet has long been known to blend aspects of their history with their own take on horology. As a result, timepieces that feature both - period-defining designs and aspects of AP’s historical DNA can be produced, just like this stunning example we have here. While the stereotypical dress watch is indeed made of 18kt yellow gold, small, round and sits on a leather strap, AP thought it was time to shake things up in the 1970s and so added a number of interesting references to their catalog that featured interesting case shapes, intricate bracelets and gems galore, much like this AP Ellipse that we have here. In contrast to Patek’s famed Ellipse model that was regimented in its design, AP’s version was admittedly more free and artistic. Indeed, it broke from convention much like a lot of AP’s other designs. Standing as a testament to that very fact is the example we have here. Featuring a tonneau-shaped 18kt white gold case with an intricately woven 18kt white gold bracelet and diamond-set bezel encircling a diamond-set pave dial with sapphire hour markers, this timepiece blends AP’s love of opulence with their desire to create truly unique designs. Powered by a manual-wind movement, this timepiece ensures that AP’s clientele could enjoy AP’s high level of horology design, all the while enjoying a watch that is compact on the wrist and wears like an elegant dress watch just with a beautifully intricate and opulent sense of design through its immaculately woven bracelet and plethora of gem stones.

Our Perspective
Showcasing what AP can do when they design a watch to act as a piece of wrist-mounted art, the Ellipse demonstrates an incredible level of detail that only brands like AP have the ability to see through to the end.
