Introduction
Today famed for their octagonal design elements as best seen in the Royal Oak, Royal Oak Offshore, Royal Oak Concept, Code 11.59 and others, Audemars Piguet, like just about every other high-end watchmaker, was once best-known for their round dress watches. Designed with a minimalist aesthetic that epitomized the timepiece’s functional nature, these dress watches were round, thin and had elegantly legible dials – just as this vintage dress watch has. Hailing from the 1960s, this dress watch is an 18kt yellow gold example that features a black dial with applied faceted indices and simple sword hands that feed into its design language all the more. Echoing this design language is this example’s running seconds subdial at 6 o’clock that takes the appearance of a delicate crosshair that reaches all the way down to the edge of the dial. Featuring a svelte case that allows this watch to be extra-thin, as AP was known for at the time, it is powered by a manual-wind cal. 2001 movement like most of AP’s dress watches from the same era.

THE DIAL
Featuring faceted applied indices, elegant sword hands, and a subtle running seconds subdial, this example's black dial maintains an elegant aesthetic that is embodied throughout the rest of the timepiece.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Boasting an elegant 32.5mm 18kt yellow gold construction that is admittedly svelte by today's standards, this vintage dress watch embraces the aesthetic codes of its time with its understated design and clean look.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case has some scratches and light nicks. There is a legible stock code and partially legible hallmark on the back of the upper left lug, while the case back has a non-legible stamping. The caseback does not have a visible serial number, which may have been worn off over time. The winding crown shows some wear. The black dial has crazing to the surface finish, with a couple of areas where the text and crosshair in the small seconds are missing. The hands show some marks. The watch is fitted with a black lizard AP strap and an Audemars Piguet yellow gold pin buckle in excellent condition.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
An elegant dress watch from AP that speaks to the watchmaker's vintage ideals, this timepiece showcases the refined side of AP's design language, a side to them that we don't get to see all that often in their modern releases.
