Introduction
Today famed for their octagonal design elements as best seen in the Royal Oak, Royal Oak Offshore, Royal Oak Concept, Code 11.59 and others, Audemars Piguet, like just about every other high-end watchmaker was best-known for their round dress watches. Designed with a minimalist aesthetic that epitomized the timepiece’s functional nature, these dress watches were round, thin and had elegantly legible dials – just as this vintage dress watch has. Hailing from the 1960s, this dress watch is an oval-shaped 18kt white gold example that features a silver dial with vertical applied stick indices and simple hands that feed into its design language all the more. Featuring a svelte 30mm-wide and 36mm tall case this example’s construction is complete with a Florentine finish that gives it a unique presence on the wrist that its shape and intriguing vertical applied indices build upon. Powered by a thin manual-wind movement, this timepiece wears incredibly densely on the wrist as so many vintage watch collectors adore.

THE DIAL
Featuring a rather understated silver dial with a subtle vertical brushed finish, this timepiece's most notable design feature is its vertical applied indices, which combine with its construction to create a rather unique appearance.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Building upon the verticality of its vertically-brushed dial and vertical indices, this timepiece has an elongated oval 18kt white gold case that stands 36mm long and 30mm wide, and is even complete with a vertically-engraved florentine finish that acts as the cherry on top of this timepiece's unusual design.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall very good condition. The white gold case has scratches and nicks, with the Florentine finish showing some loss of definition and areas of yellowing beneath the surface. The case back has some nicks and retains a still-legible stamp. The Florentine-finish dial shows signs of aging, with areas of discoloration and surface spotting, while the hands have some scratches. Fitted with a black leather strap and steel buckle. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Our Perspective
Showcasing the best of AP's unorthodox design language from the time, this 1960s era dress watch was certainly a far cry from the typical 32mm round dress watches that dominated the era with its unique dial and construction combining to create something special.
