Introduction
Famed for their Royal Oak, Audemars Piguet is a brand that has permeated most of the watch industry in one way or another. Famed as one of the "Holy Trinity" brands, Audemars Piguet is known to create some of the most exquisite examples of Haute Horlogerie in the market today and the Quantieme Perpetual Openworked ref. 25668BA that we have here is no exception. Launched in 1988 as a descendent of the ref. 5548 and discontinued in 1993, it is housed within a 36mm 18kt yellow gold case, of which only 94 are believed to exist, and is a stunning testament to AP’s skill and craftsmanship. Featuring a double-stepped domed bezel and short lugs, the ref. 25668BA wears compactly on the wrist, which contrasts the amount of engineering packed within its svelte frame. Indeed, its openworked dial reveals the complexity of its automatic cal. 2120 movement, which is based on the JLC cal. 920 movement. To match the warm glow of its golden case, the ref. 25668BA’s dial features golden chapter rings that encircle heat-blued hands, and contain the predominately blue moonphase indicator at 6 o’clock. An incredibly impressive timepiece packed with horology and immaculate craftsmanship, it is timepieces like the ref. 25668BA that remind us why AP hold the position of reverence in watchmaking that they currently occupy to this day.
