Introduction
Released in 1972 and designed by Gerald Genta, watchmaking's most famous designer, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was the first stainless steel luxury sports watch ever to exist. Released as a tactic to survive the quartz crisis, the Royal Oak can single-handedly be thanked for AP's existence today due to its astounding success, albeit it wasn't an overnight hit. Its sizeable tonneau-shaped case, signature integrated bracelet, octagonal bezel, exposed screws, and steel construction failed to win over collectors until a few years later. Today, the Royal Oak is one of the most highly-coveted timepieces in all horology as its previously dismissed design details have permeated across the industry and into watches like the Patek Philippe Nautilus, Vacheron Constantin Overseas, Rolex Oysterquartz, amongst many other legendary timepieces.

THE DIAL
Featuring a gorgeous silver dial with AP's signature “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, the ref. 15450SR features a beautiful and versatile monochromatic aesthetic.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Measuring in a perfectly-sized 37mm in diameter, the ref. 15450SR fits an enormous range of wrists as a truly unisex watch, especially when we account for the additional heft of its 18kt rose gold, its tonneau-shaped case, and integrated bracelet - all of which add to the watch's wrist presence.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The case and bezel were recently polished and has sharp edges and corners, with only minor signs of wear. The display case back features well-defined engravings along the edges. The grand tapisserie dial is near-mint, and the hands are very clean. The bracelet has very light play between the links. The bracelet currently fits a 7” wrist, and has 19 links, 7 of which are removable. The watch comes with its inner and outer boxes.
Our Perspective
Measuring at 37mm in diameter, the Royal Oak ref. 15450SR is the perfect size for men who want an easy-wearing watch and for women who want a watch with a significant wrist presence. It can do it all.
