Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore 26202AU.OO.D002CA Carbon Jarno Trulli Limited Edition

Introduction

First released in 1993, the Royal Oak Offshore was designed to expand upon Audemars Piguet's ever-iconic Royal Oak collection as a sports-focused timepiece. Designed so that it could take some severe wear and tear while continuing to perform at the highest standards possible, the Royal Oak Offshore epitomized a luxury sports watch by all accounts. Featuring AP's artisanal craftsmanship, avant-garde design, and an impeccable taste for the horological, the Royal Oak Offshore was a true maverick amongst both; AP’s offerings and the entire industry. Nicknamed "The Beast" due to its larger-than-normal 42mm case, the imposingly thick o-ring beneath its octagonal bezel, and rubberized pushers, the Royal Oak Offshore flew in the face of luxury watchmaking in much the same way that the Royal Oak did in 1972. So, the Offshore continued AP's tradition in remaining ahead of the curve and arguably be attributed with beginning the hyper-watch trend that has evolved into the modern horological landscape. Offered here we have the Jarno Trulli variant of the Royal Oak Offshore, launched as a limited edition during the Formula One Japanese Grand Prix in 2010 with only 500 pieces to celebrate Jarno joining AP as a brand ambassador. Debuting as Jarno’s first collaboration with AP even though he had been with AP since 2008, this collab featured a futuristic construction with a forged carbon case, cermet bezel, a technically impressive automatic cal. 3126/3840 movement, and a two-tone grey and cream dial with red accents that give the watch an aggressive aesthetic fit for the race track.

Condition

Watch is in overall near-mint condition. The forged carbon case shows a couple of small marks from wear, including a minor scuff to the back of the lower right lug, while the cermet bezel displays a few light surface marks. The titanium case back, crown, and pushers remain very clean. The dial and hands remain like new. It is fitted with a rubber strap and a titanium deployant clasp, both remaining in excellent condition. Watch was previously sold on Loupe This and has been reconsigned.

Our Perspective

Combining aggressive aesthetics with a technically impressive construction that houses its iconic movement, this limited edition Royal Oak Offshore is a rarity that would still fit right into AP's modern catalog.
