How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Today famed for their octagonal design elements as best seen in the Royal Oak, Royal Oak Offshore, Royal Oak Concept, Code 11.59 and others, Audemars Piguet, like just about every other high-end watchmaker was best-known for their round dress watches. Designed with a minimalist aesthetic that epitomized the timepiece’s functional nature, these dress watches were round, thin and had elegantly legible dials – just as this vintage dress watch has. Hailing from the 1970s, this dress watch is an 18kt white gold example that features a white dial with svelte applied stick indices and simple baton hands that feed into its design language all the more. Featuring a svelte 33.5mm case, this example is an extra-thin watch, as AP was known for at the time thanks to its manual-wind movement and flat bezel. Thanks to being powered by the manual-wind cal. K2001/1A, this dress watch gets to sit flat on the wrist due to it being only 7mm tall. A historically rich movement from a historically rich brand, the cal. K2001/1A fits perfectly inside of this timepiece and allows it to wear incredibly densely on the wrist as so many vintage watch collectors adore.

Condition

Watch in very good overall condition. Case shows some light scratches and marks, visible primarily on the caseback and lugs. Engravings of the serial number and hallmarks are crisp and fully visible on the caseback. Dial in very good condition, with visible oxidation on the indexes and some spotting along the dial surface. Watch comes on a generic strap with a generic steel buckle.

Please Note: Watch is not keeping time as indicated in the timing machine readout, and is in need of service.

Our Perspective

An elegant dress watch from AP that speaks to the watchmaker's vintage ideals, this timepiece showcases the refined side of AP's design lanaguage; a side to them that we don't get to see all that often in their modern releases.
