Audemars Piguet Vintage Dress Watch

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Epitomizing mid-century aesthetics from the golden age of watchmaking, this Audemars Piguet blends a Bauhaus-style design with the revered craftsmanship that earned AP their place within the Holy Trinity. Simple in its function yet complex in its execution, this example features a simple silver dial with applied indices with Arabic numerals spotting the even numbers and pyramidal indices spotting the odd numbers. The notable exception is the 6 o’clock spot which features no marker due to the seconds subdial which features a concentric guilloche engraving. Fitted with yellow gold needle hands to match its 18kt yellow gold case, this example features elongated lugs with a slight curve and a flat bezel that frames the crystal nicely. With its flat winding crown this example’s aesthetic is simple, clean and unapologetically focused on remaining entirely legible.

THE DIAL

Featuring a silver dial with uniquely aged hour markers, this example's old-style AP branding is a subtle reminder of its age and place within the history of one of horology's best-known watchmakers.

THE CONSTRUCTION

With AP famed for their thin watches, as they still are, this example features a wonderfully thin case, even by today's standards.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

Retained in very original condition the present watch has lots of charm and character. The dial is spotted and tarnished throughout. There is oxidation to the numerals and tarnishing to the dial underneath the brezel. The case is very crisp with nice lines and proportions. The gold is oxidized throughout and there are stong hallmarks under the lugs. The case back with monogram and very legible case number. The buckle and crown are later.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

A wonderfully elegant timepiece that has clearly celebrated the life of a beloved family member, this example provides a beautiful reminder that sometimes the humble wristwatch is a lot more than just an instrument used to tell the time.
