A timepiece existing beyond Audemars Piguet's typical design language, this ref. 39515 ‘Tank Normale’ is an eccentric piece of classic 1950's styling, with its rectangular18kt yellow gold case and beautiful two-tone champagne dial complete with painted indices and a darker center. Powered by the esteemed manual-wind A.P. cal. 2001 movement, this ref. 39515 is a wonderful example of mid-century watchmaking Measuring in at 31.2mm x 23.2mm, the ref. 39515 wears fantastically on the wrist with its vintage proportions and thick flat bezel and lug hoods. A large watch for its day, the ref. 39515 is wonderfully poised for the collector who wants a timepiece in keeping with today's fashion while also rich in its historical merit, as well as abundant in its confident design language and style. Offered on an 18kt yellow gold mesh bracelet from Gay Freres, the famed bracelet maker, this example carries the gravitas on the wrist that one could only hope a modern Tank could have.

Watch is in overall very good condition. The yellow gold case shows light surface scratches to the front, with some small nicks visible on the case sides and back. The refinished dial shows light spotting, and there is some black enamel missing from the hands. It is fitted with a yellow gold Gay Frères mesh bracelet with clasp, both remaining in excellent condition. The bracelet fits a minimum wrist size of approximately 5½” and a maximum wrist size of approximately 8”.

With its generous size and elegant 50's aesthetic, the ref. 39515 is a true gem that expands upon AP's design language, which has since become dominated by octagonal timepieces.
