Introduction
Understated in its design, the Audemars Piguet that we have here is a round 35mm stainless steel timepiece that showcases AP’s ability to create some of the most aesthetically pleasing traditional timepieces of the mid-century. Boasting an opaline cream sector dial with applied hour markers and the rare and desirable Gubelin co-signature, this timepiece is indeed a special piece. Made during the 1950s and featuring a screw-down caseback – an increasingly important trait at the time for dress watches and other non-sports watches – this timepiece boasts a capable and rugged design that lends itself to the modern demands collectors have for their watches. With its chunky lugs, sloped bezel, screwdown caseback, and large 35mm profile, this automatic timepiece is indeed a wonderful celebration of just how timeless mid-century timepieces are, and how rugged their designs can still be after several decades.

THE DIAL
Boasting an opaline cream sector dial, this example's display is wonderfully understated with its applied hour markera giving it a nice depth, however, its Gubelin co-signature is what really elevates this timepiece into the realm of the rare and desirable.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Sporting a stainless steel case that measures 35mm in diameter with chunky lugs and a prominent sloped bezel, this timepiece's construction perfectly aligns with the market's current sizing conventions.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The stainless steel case has some light scratches, as does the dodecagonal case back, which features well-defined engraved numbers and some nicks on two of its sides. The white cross-hair dial is double-signed Gübelin, has a couple of light marks, and has developed a pleasing patina. The no-lume minute and hour hands are very clean, while the seconds hand has some oxidation and areas where the plating has worn away. The watch is fitted with a green leather strap with a stainless steel buckle. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Our Perspective
A rare dress watch that was created when waterproofness began to emerge as an important trait for dress watches, this timepiece shows the timeless nature of mid-century design, and with its rare co-signed sector dial it exists as an even more desirable offering from horology's golden era.
