Following the opening of Dubai-based retailer Perpétuel in 2020, Baltic collaborated with Perpétuel to debut a pair of limited-edition timepieces that paid homage to Perpétuel’s Arabic identity and Baltic’s flair for vintage-inspired aesthetics. Launching two 71-piece collections, both sharing strong aesthetic similarities, the brands created a friendship that has since led to another limited edition drop. Beginning with the first launch, the two timepieces were the time-only HMS (Hours, minutes, seconds) model and the Bicompax chronograph model, which is what we have here. Featuring a multi-textured green sector dial, the Bicompax was unique within its category as a retro-inspired timepiece due to its use of Eastern-Arabic numerals. Typically speaking, they are only found in high-end watches far outside of Baltic’s retail price range, much less retro-inspired designs. This daring use of Easter-Arabic numerals allows the Bicompax to pay a fitting homage to Perpétuel’s Arabic heritage. With its 38mm stainless steel case providing an understated canvas through which its unique dial could be displayed, the 71 examples within the collection sold out rapidly. A wonderful tribute to horology, these stunning timepieces showcase the incredible talents found within the French watchmaker’s design team, and the beautiful creations that retailers and brands can produce when they collaborate as a unified team.
