Introduction
Famed as horology’s oldest watchmakers, Blancpain’s reputation is that of unbridled craftsmanship, quality and luxury. With an eye for impeccable design, their timepieces have sat on the wrists of some of history’s most influential people. Standing as a marker of the brand’s success over the centuries, the Villeret collection pays homage to Blancpain’s heritage as it is named after the brand’s birthplace. In 1983, Blancpain released its now-iconic cal. 6395 movement that featured a “complete calendar” with a moon-phase indicator. The watch, with weekday and month indicators in separate windows, a pointer date subdial at 12 o’clock and a playfully illustrated moonphase display, established several of the aesthetic codes that the modern Villeret collection leans on. As such, the collection is best known for its classical construction and typically complicated movements, of which the ref. 5395 that we have here features. With its traditionally executed dial, simple construction, and refined aesthetic, the Villeret Perpetual Calendar Moonphase is a watch that leans on Blancpain’s heritage in abundance and champions it to great effect.

THE DIAL
Featuring an eggshell white dial, this example sports traditional font for its inscriptions, a mischievously depicted moon in its moonphase indicator, and applied Roman numerals that compound upon the timepiece's already-classical aesthetic.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Measuring a traditional 34mm in diameter, this example's 18kt yellow gold construction, with its stepped bezel, is incredibly easy to wear and a true pleasure on the wrist.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The 34mm gold case is in very good overall condition, showing moderate signs of case wear. There lugs are soft edges, and there is some rippling visible on the back of the lugs due to previous polishing. The case back has some wear to the BLANCPAIN engraving and serial number, but they remain legible. The white dial is excellent, with little to no signs of aging or damage. The watch is fitted with a leather strap and features its original yellow gold BLANCPAIN buckle. It comes with its original boxes, booklets, and service papers from 2008 and 2024.
Our Perspective
A wonderfully elegant watch with traditional ideals, the Villeret stands as a wonderful reminder of Blancpain's place within the watch industry as its one of its finest and oldest brands.
