Taking a rather unconventional route into the world of watches, Boucheron began life in 1858 as a jeweller before venturing into pocket watches by the mid-1880s. From there, Boucheron’s watchmaking business continued to grow and in 1947 they launched the Reflet, a rectangular dress watch with simple lines, gentle curves and a rather unique strap mechanism whereby the strap was one continuous piece of leather that would attach an detach to and from the case at the lugs with slide fasteners, somewhat akin to how an Apple watch strap attaches to its case. Expanding upon the release of the Reflet, Boucheron launched the Carree collection in 1960 with a more traditional square-shaped case and a wonderfully thin movement that allowed the watch to occupy space as a functional piece of jewellery that just so happened to tell the time, as evidenced by the lack of indices on its gold textured dial. With a 25mm x 25mm square textured case and matching unsigned textured dial, the Carree is a stunning combination of Boucheron’s talents as a jeweller and their impressive insights as a fledging watchmaker whose popularity has begun to spike as collectors seek value for their money and intriguing watches that aren’t yet at their full potential with regards to hype and popularity.

Watch is in excellent overall condition. Case exhibits superficial scratches and marks, but retains crisp edges and well defined engravings and hallmarks. The watch is sold on a standard two piece strap with a generic steel buckle, but is designed for a loop type fitted strap with its detachable upper lugs. Please note that the movement is ticking at time of cataloging but the timekeeping is very poor and a service is recommended.

A beautiful watch that showcases some of Boucheron's stunning craftsmanship along with their luxurious taste, the Carree is well deserving of its recent boost in popularity.
