Introduction
Introduced in 1969, the Breitling Chrono-Matic ref. 2110 formed part of one of the most important developments in modern chronograph history. Created through the famous “Project 99” consortium, a collaboration between Heuer-Leonidas, Hamilton-Buren, Breitling, and Dubois-Dépraz, the Chrono-Matic was among the very first automatic chronographs ever brought to market. Powered by the groundbreaking Calibre 11 movement, the model reflected the bold and highly experimental design language of the late 1960s, combining automatic chronograph technology with oversized cases and distinctive dial layouts. The ref. 2110 is particularly notable for its rotating minute-hour bezel and unusual case architecture, both of which reinforced its sporting character.

THE DIAL
The dial features an unusual configuration for the ref. 2110, distinguished by full black dial. Typically found in 2111/2112s, there is anecdotal evidence of a few other examples of the 2110 fetauring this dial. Preserved in mint condition, the dial retains excellent clarity and contrast, while the chronograph registers and bright accents reinforce the model’s distinctly late-1960s sporting aesthetic.

THE CONSTRUCTION
The 40mm stainless steel case with the left-side crown configuration characteristic of early Calibre 11 chronographs, the case perfectly captures the experimental spirit of the era.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The steel case shows light surface scratches, while the case back retains well-defined engravings with light surface marks. The bezel shows some wear to the black finish around the edges along with scuffs to the front. The “B”-signed crown remains excellent. The dial remains near mint with very clean hands. It is fitted with a black crocodile strap and a steel pin buckle.
Please note: The watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Our Perspective
This was the very first automatic chronograph and part of the "Project 99,” a consortium between Heuer-Leonidas, Hamilton-Buren, and Dubois-Dépraz. Technically innovative, and the first of its kind, Breitling’s offering from this big brand collaboration is my favorite. The crown on the left-hand side was not for a leftie, but to signify that it was the first automatic chronograph ever made. This particular reference has a full black subdial shape that I have never seen on this model, which only adds to its allure.
