Introduction
Founded in 1989, Daniel Roth is long-established as one of the early entrants in the independent watchmaking space that has since ballooned with brands like Urkwerk, MB&F, and Richard Mille launching from the foundations that Daniel Roth laid. With their distinctive styling, fresh take on design, and technical prowess, the watchmaker quickly rose to fame. Following the brand's acquisition by Bulgari, Daniel Roth’s aesthetic evolved into a more fashion-forward era, which is where it still resides today. By blending the brand’s prior knowledge of watchmaking and Bulgari’s sense of design, the resulting timepieces showcase the best of both worlds, like this Grand Lune. Boasting Daniel Roth’s signature ellipsocurvex case in 18kt rose gold, the Grand Lune is as distinctive as any other Daniel Roth timepiece, but with a twist, namely revealed through its dial. Indeed, this Grand Lune features a two-color dial with silver and grey sections that meet with an 18kt rose gold border. While the white section only houses applied rose gold indices, the southern grey part of the dial houses a moonphase indicator at the center of the dial alongside a pointer date subdial at 6 o’clock and an interesting running seconds subdial that is broken into 3 20-second segments. As the longest arm of the display’s triple-tipped hand enters the dial, it points to the outer-most segment which indicates the seconds from 0-20. As the longest arm passes out of that segment, the middle arm enters the subdial pointing to the middle segment and thus indicating the seconds from 20-40. Finally, as that arm exits the subdial the shortest arm passes though the inner most segment indicating the seconds between 40-60. A technically complex solution to a simple problem, this novel way to display the seconds showcases Daniel Roth’s technical strength while its stunning construction, expertly finished architecture and luxurious sense of style showcases Bulgari’s design prowess.

Our Perspective
A stylish watch that breaks from convention, as Daniel Roth's timepieces have always done, the Grand Lune combines the best of both worlds with Bulgari's sense of luxury and Daniel Roth's interesting solutions to horological problems.
