Introduction
Offered here we have Cartier’s revival of their original Driver’s watch from the early 1930s, the ref. W1523256. Launched to celebrate the Parisian watchmaker’s 150th anniversary, the ref. W1523256 features the same curved case as its predecessor that was designed to be worn on the side of the wrist as opposed to on top of it like a regular wrist watch. This design was to facilitate the reading of the time while its wearer’s outstretched arms hold the steering wheel of a car. Made as a limited edition of 150 pieces made in 1997 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the foundation of Cartier by Louis-Francois Cartier, the collection was offered in two different versions, one in 18kt white gold and another in 18kt yellow gold, which is what our example is made of. Boasting a two body bombé case with cylindrical round bar lugs, the Cartier Driver is extraordinarily unique, with its caseback winding crown adding to its overall mystique. Fetauring a stunning silver dial with an engraved center and painted Roman numerals in black along its periphery, this timepiece exudes Cartier signature aesthetic all over.

THE DIAL
Showcasing Cartier's craftsmanship, the Driver boasts a stunning silver dial with an engraved center that highlights Cartier's ability to create beautiful dials that underpin their status as a luxury watchmaker.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Boasting a heavily curved 18kt yellow gold case, the Driver was to be worn on the side of the wrist as opposed to on top of it. This enabled the wearer to read the time without having to let go of the steering wheel.

Our Perspective
A unique watch inspired by Cartier's impressive back-catalog of truly ahead-of-their-time designs, the Driver showcases just how much of a design powerhouse the French jeweller and watchmaker has been since their inception in 1847.
