Introduction

With the Quartz Crisis taking an unprecedented toll on the Swiss watchmaking industry throughout the 1970s and 1980s, brands like Cartier had to think outside of the box in order to remain financially viable. Luckily for Cartier, they had just branched into lighters following a proposal from S.T. Dupont, the lighter-manufacturer, in the late 60s to sell Cartier-branded lighters under license. Such was the success that Cartier branched out in the early 1970s and began to sell perfumes, scarves, sunglasses, and other accessories under the sub-brand called "Must de Cartier." Another one of those accessories was belts, just like the example we have here. Boasting the Coussin “Bamboo’s” design, this unworn black leather belt features a gold-plated buckle that takes bamboo-inspired architecture of the Cartier Coussin, one of Cartier’s most desirable wristwatches, hailing from the 1970s. Perhaps the perfect accessory to highlight your impeccable taste, and an even better accessory to showcase your Coussin, if you are lucky enough to own one, this belt represents the peak of Cartier’s prowess as a design powerhouse.
