Introduction
Famed for their designs such as the Tank, Crash, Santos and plenty of others, Cartier’s pedigree as a watch designer is unquestionable. However, it is the watches outside of those famous few that showcase just how eclectic their design prowess can be, and so we reveal the Cartier Gondole Vertical. Launched as part of the Louis Cartier collection in 1972 whereby a handful of the brand’s famous designs were relaunched, and some new designed were introduced, the Gondole takes the design tenets of other watches and repurposes them in an unconventional format. While there is the Gondole Ellipse, there is also the Gondole Vertical, as we have here, with its rounded rectangular 18kt yellow gold case that recalls the Tank’s rectangular shape, but with rounded corners, soft sides and a deeply stepped bezel that adds some obvious visual distinction from other Cartier models. Featuring the French watchmaker’s signature dial design with the sought-after “Paris” marking at 6 o’clock alongside the brand’s black Roman numerals, blued steel hands and “chemin de fer” minute track, the Gondole Vertical is filled with Cartier’s signature design DNA all while adding some new unique elements that are not as often seen in Cartier’s offerings, like its bubble caseback for its automatic movement, thus filling it with unique character.

THE DIAL
While its white dial retains Cartier's signature design elements such as their blued steel hands, railroad-style minute track, black Roman numerals and sought-after Paris signature, the Gondole unique stepped bezel gives its display a subtle twist that sets it apart from the rest of the brand's offerings.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Gently rounded at the corners and sporting its heavily stepped bezel, the Gondole's construction is unusual amongst Cartier's offerings and thus results in an aesthetic on the wrist that is quite unique for the French maison.

Condition
Watch is in excellent overall condition. Case shows some minor surface scratches and marks, as well as some oxidation along the edges. The hallmarks and engravings on the caseback are fully visible. Watch comes on a well worn strap and its original deployant clasp sized to fit a 6 1/4" wrist.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Aesthetically unique and interesting, the Gondole offers Cartier's iconic aesthetic with some subtle twists that set it apart from the majority of the brand's offerings in a subtle and tasteful manner.
