Introduction
Much like a lot of Cartier’s catalog, the Cartier Pasha has a long and storied history. According to legend, the Pasha was supposedly conceived by Louis Cartier for The Pasha of Marrakesh, Thami El Glaoui, in the early 1930s. As the story goes, The Pasha ordered a one-of-a-kind gold watch that could keep pace with his active lifestyle and boasted a level of water resistance that was uncommon at the time. Cartier’s answer was the Pasha; a large timepiece with a screw-down crown cover and metal grid that protected its dial. During the Quartz Crisis, Cartier reached out to Gerald Genta in 1985, of Royal Oak and Nautilus fame, to design a precious metal luxury sports watch that could capitalize on the growing market for such watches, like the gold Submariner at the time. Genta’s design was the Cartier Pasha as we know it today. It is a sizeable masculine timepiece with a sporty bezel, a unique screw-down crown cover, a clean dial, and its now-iconic Vendome lugs. The variant we have here is the Pasha de Cartier Triple Timezone Moonphase Date ref. 0925. Featuring a blend of stunning guilloche engraving patterns across its silver surface, this example’s diamond-set dial is quite exquisite. Dense with information thanks to its quartet of subdials powering a pointer date function, a moonphase indicator, and two additional timezones, this timepiece’s display is the perfect example of how Cartier can create functional timepiece. Perfectly sized at 38mm in diameter and boasting the Pasha’s atypical design and perfectly crowned with diamonds within its winding crown and pusher instead of Cartier’s typical sapphire cabochons, this example has everything that makes Cartier so special.

THE DIAL
Dense with information, this Pasha's dial features three timezones (two through its subdials and one through its usual hands), a pointer date subdial and a moonphase indicator, which all combine to create a wonderfully balanced display. In addition, this example's dial is complete with diamond-set hour markers.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Breaking from Cartier's typically classical proportions, the Pasha is a modern watch with a unique design that is very much 'Cartier' in its own way, with its Vendome lugs drawing comparisons to the Must de Cartier Ronde Vermeil and its screw-down crown guard providing a unique touch that is rather atypical for Cartier to say the least.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in overall very good condition. The yellow gold case has scratches and small nicks, particularly noticeable on the bezel. The display case back shows some wear to the stamps and hallmarks. The diamond-topped crown and pushers have surface marks. The dial has visible discoloration across the white outer chapter ring and sub dials, along with light surface marks. Crystal has some visible surface scratches. The guilloché sections also show some discoloration, and the moonphase aperture exhibits signs of degradation. The blued hands have some oxidation. It is fitted with a brown alligator Cartier strap with yellow gold deployant clasp in excellent condition.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
A wonderfully attractive watch that pulls on the heartstrings of Cartier collectors, the Pasha breaks from aesthetic norms and celebrates Cartier's willingness to do new things. Furthermore, with its practical complications, this example perfectly fits the Pasha's original design brief from The Pasha of Marrakesh, Thami El Glaoui, as a practical watch that could do anything he needed it to.
