Introduction
In 1917, Louis Cartier introduced the Tank- which has arguably become the brand's most iconic model. It is storied that the first prototype Tank was presented to the US General John Pershing a year later. Since then, Cartier has created many versions of the Tank design, including but not limited to, the Tank Louis, Tank Cintrée, and Tank Normale. The Tank Americaine was introduced in 1989 and immediately became a classic. Inspired by the lines of the Tank Cintrée, the Americaine features a slightly bolder and more athletic profile.

THE DIAL
An iconic piece of Cartier's signature aesthetic, the Tank Americaine features the French watchmaker's legendary white dial with black Roman numerals, blued steel hands, and a railroad-style minute track.
THE CONSTRUCTION
With a distinctive banana-shaped case and Cartier's iconic sapphire cabochon-set crown, the Tank Americaine has a distinctive presence that adds to its timeless aesthetic as it wraps seamlessly around the wrist.

Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case shows some light nicks on the polished bezel and light surface scratches throughout. The case back has additional light scratches, with very crisp engravings and hallmarks. The dial and hands are like new. It is fitted with a brown leather strap and a gold Cartier pin buckle, both in excellent condition. The watch is accompanied by its Cartier box, dated guarantee papers, open service papers, and booklet holder. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.
Our Perspective
The popularity, as well as the prices, of the Cartier Tank and its variants have increased exponentially over the course of the last few years. Taking many cues from the Cintree, the Tank Americane is a modern watch with vintage sensibilities that appeals to modern collector's tastes and their love of Cartier's iconic design language.
