Introduction
In 1917, Louis Cartier introduced the Tank- which has arguably become the brand's most iconic model. It is storied that the first prototype Tank was presented to the US General John Pershing a year later. Since then, Cartier has created many versions of the Tank design, including but not limited to, the Tank Louis, Tank Cintrée, and Tank Normale. The Tank Americaine was introduced in 1989 and immediately became a classic. Inspired by the lines of the Tank Cintrée, the Americaine features a slightly bolder and more athletic profile.
Launched in the late 1990s as one of the few manual-wind Tank Americaine references that Cartier has ever produced, the ref. 1735B features a long curved 18kt yellow gold case on a crocodile strap. Powered by the manual-wind cal. 430MC movement, based on the Piaget cal. 430P, it sports a stunning silver guilloche "Cartier Paris" dial with black Roman numerals (as is Cartier's signature), blued steel hands, and Cartier's emblematic sapphire cabochon winding crown that complete its aesthetic and allow it to seamlessly slot into Cartier's incredibly wide-ranging collection of Tank models.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Slightly more sporty than the original Tank Cintree, the Tank Americaine shares a strong resemblance with some of the earliest Tanks from the 1920's with its long curved case.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
In near-mint overall condition. The dial is very well preserved. The case has great definition and original factory finishing. There is some light tarnish and surface wear to the case throughout. The case back inscriptions are still incredibly crisp. Overall, in great condition complete with box, papers and 18kl Cartier deployant clasp. Please note that the tang buckle that is currently mounted is plated and not 18k gold.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
The popularity, as well as the prices, of the Cartier Tank have increased exponentionally over the course of the last few years. Taking many cues from the Cintree, the Tank Americane is a modern watch with vintage sensibilities.
