Introduction
In 1917, Louis Cartier introduced the Tank- which has arguably become the brand's most iconic model. It is storied that the first prototype Tank was presented to the US General John Pershing a year later. Since then, Cartier has created many versions of the Tank design, including but not limited to, the Tank Louis, Tank Cintrée, and Tank Normale. The Tank Americaine was introduced in 1989 and immediately became a classic. Inspired by the lines of the Tank Cintrée, the Americaine features a slightly bolder and more athletic profile.

THE DIAL
Featuring one of the most consistent dial designs in watchmaking, this Americaine features Cartier's signature silver dial with an understated rosette engraving, black Roman numerals outside of a railroad minute track and blued steel hands.
THE CASE
With its distinctive banana-shaped case and sapphire cabochon-set crown, the Tank Americaine has a distinctive presence on the wrist that adds to its iconic aesthetic.

Condition
Watch is in excellent condition with surface wear primarily along the polished surface of the case. Small nicks and scratches can be seen on the polished case sides and brushed surfaces at 6 and 12. Case edges are sharp and horizontally polished, and the caseback has crisp engravings and hallmarks. Strap is in worn condition and comes with a gold pin buckle.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
The popularity, as well as the prices, of the Cartier Tank have increased exponentially over the course of the last few years. Taking many cues from the Cintree, the Tank Americane is a modern watch with vintage sensibilities.
