Introduction
Since its introduction in 1996, the Cartier Tank Française has become one of the maison's most enduring modern icons. Retaining the unmistakable silhouette of the original Tank while introducing an integrated bracelet-inspired case design, the Tank Française successfully modernised Louis Cartier's century-old creation without compromising its timeless elegance. Instantly recognisable, it has remained a favourite among collectors and style icons alike for almost three decades.
The present reference W5000256 offers a refined interpretation of the Tank Française in solid 18K yellow gold. Measuring just 20mm across, its compact proportions perfectly complement the collection's elegant aesthetic, while the silver Roman numeral dial, blued steel hands and sapphire cabochon crown preserve the classic Cartier design language that has made the Tank one of the most celebrated dress watches ever created.

THE DIAL
The classic silver dial embodies Cartier's timeless design language, featuring bold black Roman numerals, a chemin de fer minute track and blued steel sword hands. Together with the hidden signature at ten, these details have become defining signatures of the Tank collection.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Crafted in solid 18K yellow gold, the compact 20mm case features the Tank Française's distinctive integrated architecture, with softly rounded brancards flowing seamlessly into the leather strap. The polished case and sapphire crystal create an elegant everyday dress watch that remains unmistakably Cartier.

THE MOVEMENT
Powering the watch is a reliable Cartier quartz movement, offering exceptional accuracy and convenience while allowing the Tank Française to maintain its slim, elegant profile.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The 18K yellow gold case shows surface scratches and small nicks. The case back retains well-defined engravings and hallmarks, with some light surface scratches and wear to the screw heads. The cabochon on the winding crown is chipped. The dial is in excellent condition, and the hands remain clean. It is fitted with a black leather strap and an 18K yellow gold buckle showing light surface scuffs. Comes with the warranty booklet and document holder.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Few watches balance elegance and everyday wearability as successfully as the Tank Française. This early yellow gold example retains all of the design cues that have made the model a modern Cartier icon, offering a timeless aesthetic that is every bit as relevant today as it was when the collection debuted.
