Cartier Tank Incurvée

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Released in 1919, the Cartier Tank was designed by Louis Cartier in 1917 after he was inspired by the shape of the Renault tanks he saw on the Western Front during WWI. Perhaps one of the most recognizable pieces of horological design to ever be created, the Tank’s rectangular shape, svelte proportions, and timeless aesthetic have enabled it to earn a top spot within the horological hall of fame. Designed and released in the 1960s, the Cartier Tank Square Incurvée, or Tank Faberge as it is also known is a rare variant of the Tank which features a tonneau-shaped case with rounded corners and a simple white dial with Cartier's signature black Roman numerals and railroad-style minute track. Fitted to an 18k gold bracelet that matches its case, this timepiece is a stunning example of Cartier's stylish design and exquisite craftsmanship.

THE DIAL

With its slightly off-white aged color, black Roman numerals, and blued steel hands, this Tank Faberge's dial is immediately recognizable as the purest distillation of Cartier's style and aesthetic.

THE CONSTRUCTION

With its banana-shaped case profile and hooded lugs, the Tank Faberge hugs the natural contours of the wrist, allowing extremely comfortable wear.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

Overall condition is very good to excellent. Original dial is in mint condition. Light surface abrasions present on the case. Case serial and hallmarks are clearly visible, and serial number is stamped on caseback and mid case in multiple places. 18k bracelet is unsigned, but bears French hallmarks and appears to be original to the watch. Please note: One of the four case screws (on the 9 o'clock side) of the case is missing.

Our Perspective

A demonstration of Cartier's ability to create some of their most perfectly balanced timepieces without the need for excessive detail, the Tank Faberge is a stunning timepiece that remains relatively unique when compared to their modern offerings.
