Introduction
Released in 1917, the Cartier Tank was designed by Louis Cartier after he was inspired by the shape of the Renault tanks he saw on the Western Front during WWI. Perhaps one of the most recognizable pieces of horological design to ever be created, the Tank’s rectangular shape, svelte proportions, and timeless aesthetic have enabled it to earn a top spot within the horological hall of fame. Amongst the plethora of models that belong to this iconic collection is perhaps the purest distillation of its design, the Tank Louis Cartier. True to the original, the Tank Louis Cartier features the same classical dial and rounded case sides called “brancards” that stretch to form its lugs as the watch Louis Cartier designed all those years ago, which spawned the now-legendary collection and all of its associated models such as the Tank Francaise, Tank Cintree and so on. Offered here we have Tank Mini from the 1990s, made from 18kt white gold. Sized at only 27.5mm long and only 14.5mm wide, this diamond-set icon features the Tank’s signature rectangular shape, but with some luxurious design flourishes such as its diamond-set case and diamond cabochon. Retaining the essence of the Cartier Tank’s iconic design but with even more luxury than normal, this is a wonderful reminder of Cartier’s reputation as a jeweller.

THE DIAL
Featuring Cartier's signature crisp white dial with their iconic combination of black Roman numerals and blued steel hands, this Tank's dial design has become a lynchpin of the brand's aesthetic.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Made of 18kt white gold, the Tank Mini's svelte 14.5mm-wide, diamond-set case will stand the test of time as a truly timeless piece of horological design, thanks to its iconic heritage.

THE PROFILE
Boasting a flat design that sits perfectly on the wrist thanks to its quartz movement, the Tank Mini's rectangular profile is easily recognisable at a glance, albeit its diamond cabochon winding crown is one clear departure from the Tank's standard sapphire cabochon.
Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The white gold case has some light scratches and marks, with minor wear to the screw heads on the case side. All diamonds and settings on the bezel and crown are in excellent condition. The case back features well-defined engravings and hallmarks beneath a Cartier sticker. The dial and hands are near mint. It is fitted with a Cartier crocodile strap and white gold deployant clasp, both in excellent condition. Fits approximately a 5 3/4” wrist.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
Perhaps one of the few truly timeless timepieces, the Tank's aesthetic looks as fresh and modern as ever. Even with its over 100-year-old design, it still looks completely contemporary - that's not something a lot of watches can say.
