Introduction

Launched in 1996, Chopard’s L.U.C. segment (named after Chopard's founder) was set up to commemorate Chopard's heritage as a high-precision movement manufacturer. Perhaps the ultimate expression of Chopard's watchmaking prowess, watches produced by L.U.C. include some of the most laboriously produced movements to come from Switzerland. The processes used to produce these movements include delicate hand finishing, accurate assembly, tedious testing, and careful casing. In 2004, Chopard and Parmigiani Fleurier even came together to create a certification to attest that 100% of a watch head was made in Switzerland, an attempt to combat the Swiss Government's lackluster definition of "Swiss Made” whereby only 60% of the value of a watch has to come from Switzerland. Ever since its inception, Chopard’s L.U.C. timepieces have become celebrated pieces of horology, and this limited edition 16/1863 of only 1860 pieces (yet it is theorized that Chopard only ended up producing less than half of that) is no different with its beautiful silver dial, stunning movement, and wonderfully classical 38mm x 10mm 18kt rose gold case. A dress watch in style, but far more than that, this timepiece boasts a pointer date display set around its seconds subdial at 6 o’clock that is balanced by a retrograde power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock for its lengthy 8-day power reserve which derives from its twin-barrels that also inspire this timepiece's name 'Quattro".

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Boasting a stunning silver dial with a guilloched engraved center and a satin finished chapter ring, the 16/1863's display features two unique complications at its top and bottom, a retrograde power reserve, and a pointer date that shares its subdial with the running seconds at 6 o'clock.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Measuring 38mm in diameter, the L.U.C. 16/1863 is a wonderfully wearable timepiece with classical details in its stepped domed bezel, swooping lugs and hefty 18kt rose gold construction.

Condition

Watch is in excellent overall condition. Watch has been previously polished but engravings are all crisp and fully visible. Only minor surface wear evident on case. Watch comes with original guarantee papers and box, as well as additional service paperwork and a guarantee card issued by 1916 Co when watch was resold in 2022.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

Still a relatively unearthed secret from within neo-vintage watch collecting, the L.U.C. Quattro 16/1863 showcases the very best that Chopard has to offer thanks to its elegant dial, luxurious construction and impressive movement.
