Introduction
It’s not often a relatively new watchmaker sets the world of horology alight. Typically brands incrementally improve their offerings and slowly develop a fanbase. And while Christopher Ward has done those things too since their launch in 2004, they have recently begun to release homerun after homerun with an increasingly long line of admirers beginning to finally pay attention to what they are putting out, and one of the watches they have to thank for that is the Twelve – perhaps one of the best value propositions in all of watchmaking, particularly within the sports watch space. Launched in 2023, the Twelve capitalized on the industry’s fascination with integrated bracelets sports watches while also offering a novel design perspective and impressive craftsmanship. As is now to be expected from Christopher Ward’s releases as of late, the Twelve garnered plenty of attention, and so the collection’s various references became sought-after, with the ref. C12-40ADC1-WIS512 that we have here boasting a rather special story. Created as a limited edition of 25 individually numbered pieces, this example, serial number "00" was the first prototype made. The watch was a collaboration beween Christopher Ward and watch collector group WIS.512 based out of Austin, Texas. Created as a celebration of one of WIS512’s legendary founders, Carter @Wristi Combs, the 41mm titanium ref. C12-40ADC1-WIS512 features a selection of subtle nods to his legacy. From its purple guilloche-style dial to its orange hand to Wristi’s personal insignia on its caseback, this timepiece serves as a celebration of Wristi’s long-lasting legacy within the WIS.512 group and his wider-ranging impact on the watch collecting community as a whole.
