Introduction

Founded in 1955, Corum are a watchmaker famed for their unique outlook on horological design, with collections such as the Coin and Bubble both standing as aesthetically unique and interesting. Belonging to the Coin collection, the watch that we have here is the Ladies version of the Coin Watch, from the 1980s. Using an 1893 18kt yellow gold 5$ Liberty Coin for its construction, it is an 18kt yellow gold timepiece with a coin-edge bezel, straight lugs, a coin-edge midcase and a wonderfull preserved dial and caseback that reveal this timepiece’s heritage as what used to be a piece of numismatics. Offered on a leather strap with a gold-plated buckle, this quartz timepiece is complete with black hands and black inscriptions that read “Corum” at 9 o’clock and “Quartz” at 3 o’clock.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Featuring minimal inscriptions in order to highlight the Eagle design on its display, this Coin watch boasts simple black hands and subtle black branding.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

Made from a $5 Liberty gold coin from 1893, this watch measures only 24mm in diameter, making it a fabulous ladies' watch that also packs an interesting stylistic punch.

THE PROFILE
THE PROFILE

Powered by a quartz movement, the Coin watch's profile remains nearly as thin as it would be if it remained as a coin, meaning it wears incredibly flat to the wrist.

Condition

The watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case is well defined, with some light scratches on the lugs, and the beaded-edge bezel remains sharp. The coin that forms both the dial and case back shows a number of scratches and nicks, as expected for an artefact over a century old. The coin-edge case sides and diamond-topped winding crown are in excellent condition. The black hands are very clean. The watch is fitted with a brown alligator strap and a gold-plated buckle, both in excellent condition.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

Using an interesting source material to create a timepiece, this Coin watch perfectly showcases Corum's avant-garde design DNA.
