Introduction
Founded in 1955, Corum are a watchmaker famed for their unique outlook on horological design, with collections such as the Coin and Bubble both standing as aesthetically unique and interesting. However, while Corum does create some off-the-wall timepieces, some of their collections can be beautifully restrained and classical. Rolling all of those tenets into one, the Corum Rolls Royce Spirit of Ecstasy combines Corum’s natural ability to create off-the-wall timepieces with their restrained and classical approach. Launched in the 1970s in collaboration with Rolls Royce on account of Corum being awarded the license, this watch’s design is closely linked to the design of the iconic automaker’s radiator grills. Flanked by a set of stylized lugs, the case features the double ‘RR’ Rolls Royce emblem at 12 o’clock underneath a miniaturized version of Rolls Royce’s famous mascot, the ‘Spirit of Ecstasy,’ who is perched atop the case within a cutout between the screw bar holding the leather strap in place. Made of 18kt yellow gold, 24mm wide, and powered by a quartz movement, this unique watch tells a story from when watchmakers could take direct inspiration from the world around them without having to overcomplicate the execution of their design.

THE DIAL
Boasting a myriad of vertical slats that echo the design of a Rolls Royce's radiator grill, this watch makes it clear and obvious that it intends to execute on its design inspiration in a clear and obvious manner without beating around the bush.
THE CONSTRUCTION
Featuring several obvious nods to Rolls Royce's iconic radiator grills within its 18kt yellow gold case, the watch boasts the automaker's mascot, the Spirit of Ecstasy, perched at 12 o'clock atop the case and the brand's 'RR' logo upon a raised plaque, just like we see on the cars themselves.
THE LUGS
With a unique asymmetrical lug system, the Rolls Royce Spirit of Ecstasy makes the most of its unusual design so as to give the watch a unique feeling on the wrist too.
Condition
The yellow gold case is in excellent condition overall, with some wear visible on the Rolls Royce plaque at the top of the case. The hallmarks on the crown side of the case are slightly softened. The winding crown, featuring Corum's "Key" logo, is well-defined. The case back is excellent, with crisp engravings, vertical brushed finish and screw heads in excellent condition, although the screws securing the strap show some wear. The champagne dial is excellent, as are the no-lume hands. The watch is fitted with a brown Corum leather strap and a gold Corum buckle, which is well-defined.
