Introduction
While they might be most notable for creating sturdy budget-friendly watches, Seiko have two sibling brands that exist only to punch up. The better-known Grand Seiko and the lesser-known Credor, whose tiny output allows them to create some of the finest watches on the market today in competition with brands like Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and so forth. Introduced in 1974 as a collection of precious metal models, Credor began its life rather differently to how we know it today. Branded as "Crêt D'Or", meaning "Golden Crest" in French, it wasn't until 1978 that the brand was spun off into its own collection of watches and renamed "Credor" - as we know it today. Launched in 2024 as one of Credor’s collections, the Locomotive debuted with a casual aesthetic that moved away from Credor’s overtly classical design language and embraced everyday functionality – inspired by a 1978 design created for Credor by none other than Gerald Genta. Launched as a limited edition variant of just 300 pieces, the 38.8mm ref. GCCR999 that we have here features a complete titanium construction with a striking black dial with 1600 engravings that radiate out from the dial’s central pinion. Surrounded by an hexagonal bezel with six exposed screws and a Vendome lug system for its train track-inspired bracelet that gives the watch a classical edge to what is otherwise a rather sporty design.

THE DIAL
While it is fitted with a black dial that appears understated at first glance, Credir's signature craftsmanship is where this display shines, with its 1600 radial engravings bursting out from the dial's center.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Imbued with Genta's signature touches like its angular case, exposed screws, and engraved dials, the Locomotive's winding crown at 4 o'clock and vendome lugs combine to make this design visually distinctive and unique on the wrist compared to his other famed designs.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT
This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.
Condition
The watch is in like-new condition, with only a few light handling marks visible. The bracelet currently fits a 6 1/2” wrist, and is fitted with 15 links. There are 6 additional links included. The watch comes complete with its original box and papers.
Our Perspective
Appropriately 'Genta' in some aspects, while also appropriately unique in others, the Locomotive appeals to Credor's visually distinctive sensibilities while also boasting a broad range of appeal that the brand has always sought to offer.
