Introduction
An independent watchmaker based in Vallée de Joux, David Candaux started his eponymous brand in 2017 with a release called the “1740 The First 8” which is what we have here. David began his watchmaking career a long time before that however, as a watchmaker with Jaeger LeCoultre. Candaux was such a good watchmaker, in fact, that he became a designer watchmaker, a rare job even in Switzerland. This job wasn’t to design watches, like a Gerald Genta or Jorg Hysek, but instead design their movements and any accompanying engineering. As a result, some of the most breath-taking pieces of modern horological engineering have come out of Candaux’s workshop in recent years, one example of which being the DC6 Blue Phantom that we have here. Made as a limited edition collection of just 8 pieces for tennis star Alexander Zherev prior to his deal with Rolex, the example we have here was Alexander’s personal piece unique, with a blue dial at 3 o’clock instead of the black dial that adorned the other 7 examples. Boasting a black symmetrical display with a power reserve indication at 12, a dial displaying hours and minutes at three which is controlled by a crown at 12 and a 30 degree inclined tourbillon at 9 o’clock, this is a special-looking watch that speaks to Candaux’s craftsmanship in abundance.

THE DIAL
Made for Alexander Zverev prior to his deal with Rolex, this example is the first of a limited edition set of 8 pieces. As his piece unique, the dial at 3 o'clock is blue instead of black in the other 7 examples.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Made of forged carbon, this DC6 lives up to its name thanks to its blacked-out construction and blue accents.

Our Perspective
A unique example from what was already a unique-looking collection of just 8 examples, the DC6 Blue Phantom for Alexander Zverev speaks to David Candaux' talents as a watchmaker, movement designer and craftsman.
