Introduction

Founded in 1989, Daniel Roth is long-established as one of the early entrants in the independent watchmaking space that has since ballooned with brands like Urkwerk, MB&F, and Richard Mille launching from the foundations that Daniel Roth laid. With their distinctive styling, fresh take on design, and technical prowess, the watchmaker quickly rose to fame. An emblematic example of their watchmaking style, this 18kt yellow gold Chronograph model features a stunning silver dial with an openworked center that provides a perfectly clear view of the cal. DR101 movement powering this stunner. Additionally, this mechanical view is contrasted by the concentric satin-finished chronograph counters and chapter rings that make up the remnants of the dial, which also links this timepiece with Daniel Roth's other creations. Pairing distinctive blued steel hands with heritage-inspired black Roman numerals, this Chronograph’s styling is unique in that it blends design cues rooted in watchmaking tradition with Daniel Roth's own innovative take on the industry’s processes, namely through their signature ellipsocurvex case - much like Richard Mille and Franck Muller's use of the tonneau case.

THE DIAL

Featuring all of the hallmarks of Daniel Roth's design language, this example features the blued steel arrow hands, black Roman numerals, and a white chapter ring like so many of his other pieces. However, where the dial would feature an elaborate guilloche engraving, this example is skeletonized, providing a view of the movement beneath.

THE CONSTRUCTION

Featuring Daniel Roth's signature ellipsocurvex-shaped case IN 18kt yellow gold, this example is unapologetic in its distinctive styling, uncompromising wrist presence, and luxurious heft.

Condition

Watch is in excellent overall condition. The case has surface scratches and a some minor scratches predominately around the bezel. Hallmarks on the lugs are crisp and fully legible. Skeletonized dial and blued hands are in near-mint condition.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

A quintessential example of Daniel Roth's unique style and aesthetic, this piece is a wonderful reminder of why the independent watchmaker was so cherished in the 1990s and 2000s, with their much-deserved resurgence gripping the market in the last two years.
