Daniel Roth N207 Automatic Subseconds Stainless Steel

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Founded in 1989, Daniel Roth is long-established as one of the early entrants in the independent watchmaking space that has since ballooned with brands like Urkwerk, MB&F, and Richard Mille launching from the foundations that Daniel Roth laid. With their distinctive styling, fresh take on design, and technical prowess, the watchmaker quickly rose to fame. An emblematic example of their watchmaking style, this 18k white gold Small Seconds ref. 207 features a stunning grey two-tone dial with vertical pinstripe guilloche engraving and concentric satin-brushed finish found along the chapter rings of its main dial and subdial at 6 o'clock. Pairing distinctive arrow-shaped blued steel hands with heritage-inspired black Roman numerals, this Small Second example's styling is unique in that it blends design cues rooted in watchmaking tradition with Daniel Roth's own innovative take on the industry's design processes and inspirations shining brightly through their signature ellipsocurvex case - much like Richard Mille and Franck Muller who are both well-known for their use of the tonneau-shaped case, with both brands even being viewed as the reason for its re-emergence. However, unlike those brands, the ellipsocurvex case was certainly not well-known before Daniel Roth came around and used it, but now it is; such is their power as a watchmaking icon.

Condition

Watch is in very good overall condition. Case has some wear, with scratches and marks visible along the surfaces. There is debris stuck in some of the lug corners, and some minor corrosion visible on the surface where the upper left lug is attached to the case. Pinstripe guilloche dial is in excellent condition, with only light signs of aging. The watch comes with a signed deployant buckle.
ADDENDUM: What was previously described as "minor corrosion" appears to be dirt and not corrosion and most was removed with a cloth wipe.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

An iconic brand within the industry thanks to their position as one of the first major names within independent watchmaking, Daniel Roth has come to the attention of collectors again thanks to their distinctive aesthetic, interesting use of shape and attention to detail.
