Introduction
Founded in 1989 as one of the early entrants within the modern field of independent watchmaking, Daniel Roth is a watchmaker that quickly gained the plaudits of industry insiders and collectors alike thanks to their stunning creations, fine watchmaking, and dedication to artisanal crafts. With an impressive array of high complication timepieces under their belt, the brand was acquired by BVLGARI in 2000 as the famed Italian jeweler made their way into the watchmaking industry, a move that has since paid off. A cult icon still to this day, Daniel Roth symbolizes the majesty within a unique and distinctive aesthetic - an aesthetic that continues to make their timepieces beloved by collectors around the globe. Here we have an incredibly rare and sought-after Daniel Roth Papillon from 1998, which was the last model that Daniel Roth personally oversaw before the brand was sold. Made of 18kt white gold and featuring the brand’s iconic ellipsocurvex case, this model was launched as a limited edition collection of 110 pieces to celebrate the brand’s 10th anniversary. Boasting a stunning two-tone silver and grey dial with various guilloche finishes, this dial is filled with Daniel Roth’s signature aesthetic while still breaking from convention as a wonderful piece of early independent watchmaking. Featuring a jump hour indicator at 12 o’clock, a retrograde 60-minute scale at 6 o’clock and a central running seconds subdial, this example’s display is wonderfully unique while also retaining the brand’s unapologetically distinctive look.
