Introduction
Founded in 1989, Daniel Roth is long-established as one of the early entrants in the independent watchmaking space, which has since ballooned in popularity with brands like Urwerk, MB&F, and Richard Mille launching from the very foundations that Daniel Roth laid. With their distinctive styling, fresh take on design, and technical prowess, the indie watchmaker quickly rose to fame. An emblematic example of their watchmaking guile, this extremely rare 18k white gold perpetual calendar ref. 118.l.60 was released in the late 1990s after Daniel Roth’s economic survival was assured by the Singapore-based retailer The Hour Glass following the downfall of their previous owners, Chaumet, in 1992. A stunningly beautiful watch that symbolizes Daniel Roth’s craftsmanship and technical prowess like none other, this incredible perpetual calendar timepiece offers a stunning two-tone dial with silver chapter rings atop its grey display, blued steel hands, and a wonderfully decorated movement within. Sporting concentric guilloche engraving throughout its chapter rings and vertically engraved finishings across its grey portions, this vastly complex timepiece’s dial combines with Daniel Roth’s iconic ellipsocurvex case to create a wonderfully exuberant aesthetic as its polished case contrasts the various finishes on its dial with a stunning effect.

THE DIAL
Featuring a slew of indicators that hint at the complexity of its perpetual calendar automatic cal. 114 movement, this timepiece's two-tone silver and grey dial features a pointer date subdial that doubles to house its leap year indicator, a moonphase indicator at 12 o'clock, and twin date and month apertures on either side of the central pinion that complete this timepiece's complications that help show the reader the date.

THE CONSTRUCTION
Featuring Daniel Roth's signature ellipsocurvex-shaped case, this 18k white gold example is unapologetic in its distinctive styling and uncompromising wrist presence.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The white gold case has light surface scratches, with a more noticeable scratch on the front of the lower left lug. The display case back is excellent, featuring deep engravings on the edge and clear hallmarks on the backs of the lugs. There is a small mark on the crystal above the Roman numeral II, but the dial remains excellent. The blued hands are all very clean. The watch is fitted with a black Daniel Roth-signed alligator strap and a white gold buckle, both in excellent condition.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
A wonderful watch that distills Daniel Roth's essence as an independent watchmaker, this example blends traditional elements and an avant-garde design language with incredible success.
