Introduction

Founded in 1989, Daniel Roth is long-established as one of the early entrants in the independent watchmaking space, which has since ballooned in popularity with brands like Urwerk, MB&F, and Richard Mille launching from the very foundations that Daniel Roth laid. With their distinctive styling, fresh take on design, and technical prowess, the indie watchmaker quickly rose to fame. An emblematic example of their watchmaking guile, the Master’s Tourbillon 8-Day ref. 197.X.60 is a spectacular timepiece inside and out. A stunningly beautiful watch that symbolizes Daniel Roth’s craftsmanship and technical prowess like none other, this incredible tourbillon-touting timepiece also features a triple-handed tourbillon cage with hands of varying lengths that sweep over 20-second scales as the tourbillon rotates that allows it to double as a running subseconds dial. Paired with this vastly complex feature is a stunning silver dial with Clous-de-Paris guilloche engraving and concentric satin finish along the chapter rings, which combine with the 41mm 18k white gold ellipsocurvex case to create a wonderful monochromatic aesthetic that is just sublime on the wrist. Beyond just the complexity of its 8-Day tourbillon, the ref. 197.X.60 also boasts a Cartier Tank Basculante-inspired feature whereby its case can rotate 180 degrees over its 12 to 6 o’clock axis, revealing a second silver dial that is just as beautifully decorated as its reverse with Clous-de-Paris guilloche engraving and concentric satin finishing. Boasting a large pointer date dial and a digital power reserve indicator that reveals the number of days left in the movements mainspring, this secondary dial adds to the ref. 197.X.60 complexity in an intriguing manner that only its owner is lucky enough to enjoy.

Condition

Watch is in excellent condition. Case has light surface wear throughout that is commensurate with age. Scratches are visible primarily along the bezel and other polished areas of the case. The case back features crisp engravings that are easy to read. Caeback features a scratch to the right of the reference number. Both dials are in very attractive original condition. Crocodile leather strap is worn and comes fitted with its original 18kt white gold pin buckle.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

Boasting an immensely complicated movement that is reflected in how complex the Master's Tourbillion 8-Days' ellipsocurvex case is with its Tank Basculante-inspired reversible design, the ref. 197.X.60 showcases Daniel Roth's tenacious dedication to horology and incredible craftsmanship.
