Introduction
Founded in 1989, Daniel Roth is long-established as one of the early entrants in the independent watchmaking space, which has since ballooned in popularity with brands like Urwerk, MB&F, and Richard Mille launching from the very foundations that Daniel Roth laid. With their distinctive styling, fresh take on design, and technical prowess, the indie watchmaker quickly rose to fame. An emblematic example of their watchmaking guile and iconic aesthetic, the C187 “Volutes” Tourbillon was released around 1990. A stunningly beautiful and tremendously rare watch that is one of only a handful known to exist, the C187 “Volutes” symbolizes Daniel Roth’s craftsmanship and technical prowess like none other. Featuring an incredible 18kt yellow gold and a triple-handed tourbillon cage with hands of varying lengths that sweep over 20-second scales as the tourbillon rotates, this timepiece pairs a vastly complex feature with a stunning two-tone grey dial with vertical pinstripe guilloche engraving and concentric satin finish along its silver chapter rings on both of its subdials that add a sense of visual delight to this incredible watch. With its complex ellipsocurvex case, unique dial design, intense complexity and stunningly engraved movement bridges – as displayed on either side of its tourbillon and behind its exhibiton caseback - the C187 “Volutes” sits at the throne of Daniel Roth’s offerings as one of their best ever, and rarest, releases.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

Condition
The watch is in overall excellent condition. The yellow gold case has some surface marks and scuffs, especially on the bezel, but remains well defined. The hallmarks on the backs of the lugs are all very crisp. There is a visible small ding on the upper left lug when viewing from caseback, as well as other wear from strap changes on the rear of the lugs. The dial is excellent, with just some light marks on the vertically finished sections. The watch is fitted with a Daniel Roth crocodile strap with a yellow gold buckle in excellent condition.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
