De Bethune DB25 Starry Varius DB25VTIS3 Titanium

How do I bid? Start here

Introduction

Launching in 2002, De Bethune has burst onto the watchmaking scene with hi-tech materials, innovative movements and stunning avant-garde designs that have enabled them to quickly become one of the most distinctive watchmakers in the industry. Founded by THA founders Denis Flageollet and David Zanetta, the idea for De Bethune was that it would be a true watch manufacture, something De Bethune has undoubtedly achieved with their models that encompass almost every facet of horology. Recognised as one of the most important indie watchmakers of recent times, De Bethune have created a powerful sense of self as they forge on with their own unique aesthetic and style. Carrying that aesthetic in abundance is the DB25 Starry Varius in Titanium that we have here. Boasting a remarkable focus on ergonomics, finishing and raw craftsmanship, the DB25 Starry Varius is a wonderful example of why De Bethune are held to such a high regard in the watchmaking industry.

Free from complications that might muddle its design, the DB25 is a time-only timepiece powered by the impeccably finished 6-day power reserve manually wound cal. DB2005 movement. Featuring 160 parts with a silver plate and barrel bridge cover adorned with "côtes de Bethune” finishing, hand-snailed barrels and hand-polished, chamfered steel parts throughout, this movement is a feast for the eyes behind the DB25 Starry Varius’ exhibition caseback. As its name suggests, where the Starry Varius’ design really shines is its dial. Made of highly polished blued titanium plate, the dial speaks to De Bethune’s signature aesthetic, with a starry night sky made up using gold studs, which represent stars, in the centre and a silver-toned chapter ring that houses Roman numerals which encircle the blued titanium plate in the centre. With De Bethune’s signature hollowed-out lugs extending from the centre of this timepiece’s entirely polished case, this 42mm x 8.8mm thick beauty sits flat on the wrist for a wonderfully ergonomic experience.

THE DIAL
THE DIAL

Inspired by the night's sky, the Starry Varius boasts a golden star-studded blued titanium dial that replicates our view of the Milky Way galaxy on a darkly lit night.

THE CONSTRUCTION
THE CONSTRUCTION

While large at 42mm in diameter, the DB25's use of titanium, thin profile of just 8.8mm creates a timepiece that is light and pleasant on the wrist.

TIMING MACHINE READOUT

This reading was taken (crown down) with a ONEOF Accuracy Boutique Edition timing machine at time of cataloging. It is provided as a courtesy only, and shall not be construed as a warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale for more information.

Condition

The watch is in near-mint condition. The titanium case shows only minimal signs of wear and remains well defined. The dial and hands are like new. The watch is fitted with a De Bethune-signed alligator strap and titanium pin buckle, both in excellent condition. It comes complete with its original box and papers. Please note that the watch ticks at time of cataloging, but timekeeping is poor and a service is recommended.

Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.

Our Perspective

A watchmaker like none other, De Bethune's timepieces have become increasingly sought-after due to how different they are to find, how well they are made, and how much of a presence they have on the wrist - everything that this DB25 exhibits.
