Founded in 2021 by Frenchman Lucas Roillet after he met Lia Meskhi and Nikoloz Panchulidze in Tbilisi, Georgia after he was instantly drawn to the skills of these two enamelers who mastered the art of cloisonné enamel, also known as minankari, which originated in Georgia in the 7th century, Deguiret is a new independent watchmaker that gives enamellers the space to create pieces of genuine artistry that is seldom seen in watches anywhere close to Deguiret’s retail price. Offered here we have the Drole d’Oiseau ref. DGT-010, made by Lia Meskhi, which is an incredibly bright and vivid tapestry of colors and art inspired by the film "The Eccentrics (Sherekilebi)" by Eldar Shengelaia. With a flying contraption set amongst a spectacularly colorful backdrop, this 42mm stainless stel timepiece’s display is wearable art. Made by firing glass enamel powder placed within metal wire borders across dozens of steps, making cloisonne enamel dials is exceptionally difficult at the best of times, let alone to depict an image as complex as this, and therein lies the appeal of Deguiret’s watches.
