Introduction
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Ebel was producing some of the most technically sophisticated and elegantly designed watches in Switzerland. Under the creative direction of Pierre-Alain Blum, the brand became known as one of the industry's "Architects of Time," combining distinctive case designs with high-grade Swiss movements and exceptional dial craftsmanship. While the Sport Classic collection defined Ebel's commercial success, the manufacture also produced a series of far more exclusive references that demonstrated its ability to compete with the finest names in haute horlogerie.
The Lichine is among the rarest and most intriguing of these creations. Produced in extremely limited numbers, it combined an elegant tonneau-shaped platinum case with a beautifully executed blue dial that blends engine-turned guilloché with cloisonné-inspired detailing, creating remarkable visual depth. Applied Roman numerals and recessed indications for the date, running seconds and power reserve appear to float above the richly textured surface, while the unusually sculptural hands further reinforce the watch's distinctive character. Powered by an automatic Swiss movement and housed in a slim, wrist-hugging platinum case, the Lichine represents a fascinating period in Ebel's history when technical ambition and expressive design came together in genuinely limited production.

THE DIAL
The royal blue dial is unquestionably the centrepiece of the Lichine, combining intricate guilloché with a cloisonné-inspired finish that creates exceptional depth and texture. Applied Roman numerals and the three recessed displays appear almost suspended above the dial, while the distinctive hands complete one of Ebel's most accomplished dial designs.
THE CONSTRUCTION
The slim platinum tonneau case offers an elegant alternative to the traditional round chronometer-style dress watch, with softly curved flanks allowing it to sit exceptionally comfortably on the wrist. Its restrained proportions and precious metal construction perfectly complement the complexity of the dial, creating a watch that feels both refined and distinctive.

Condition
Watch is in overall excellent condition. The platinum case shows light surface scratches and scuffs. The case back has surface scratches while retaining well-defined engravings and hallmarks. The case hallmarks remain legible. There is some wear to the strap screws. The dial is in near-mint condition, and the hands remain clean, with a couple of small spots to the luminous material. It is fitted with a black leather strap and a steel Ebel deployant clasp showing light surface scuffs. Comes with the inner and outer boxes.
Please Note: Due to CITES considerations, if the watch is to be shipped outside of the USA, the exotic skin strap will have to be removed.
Our Perspective
The Lichine is exactly the kind of watch that rewards knowledgeable collectors. Produced in extremely small numbers during one of Ebel's most creative periods, it combines a beautifully engineered platinum case with a dial whose quality rivals that of far more celebrated manufacturers. Often overlooked in today's market, the Lichine remains one of the hidden gems of 1990s Swiss watchmaking.
